Former Rutgers starting quarterback Gavin Wimsatt has decided to transfer to an SEC school.

Wimsatt announced Tuesday that he has chosen to transfer to Kentucky.

Kentucky shared a press release announcing the news. They noted that Wimsatt will have two years of eligibility remaining.

“We are excited to add Gavin to our program,” Kentucky coach Mark Stoops said of Wimsatt. “Game experience is extremely valuable at quarterback and this is a unique opportunity to add talent and experience to the room.”

Wimsatt started all 13 games for Rutgers last season and led the Scarlet Knights to a 7-6 record and bowl game victory. He passed for 1,735 yards, nine touchdowns and eight interceptions in 2023, though he added 497 yards and 11 touchdowns on the ground.

Wimsatt decide to transfer out of Rutgers after losing the starting job this spring to Minnesota transfer Athan Kaliakmanis.

Wimsatt will compete with likely serve as a backup to Brock Vandagriff, who transferred to Kentucky from Georgia.
